Principles of Partnership
General Values and Principles Associated with the International Partnership
A set of values and principles related to international partnerships explicitly guide this project. These include a shared recognition that:
1. Mutual benefit is inherent to any successful partnership, although the form of that benefit will be quite different between partners;
2. Decision-making in relation to activities within the partnership must be shared and issues arising from implementation of partnership activities must be negotiated and renegotiated to the satisfaction of all partners;
3. Flexibility and openness to new ideas on the part of all partners will enhance the success of the partnership toward meeting its shared objectives;
4. Active and open communication, maximizing personal contact, and on-going mutual problem solving between the members of the two nursing faculties will be necessary in order to maintain a shared understanding and mutually agreeable goals;
5. The partnership must remain accountable to the academic values of all institutions involved, the fiscal responsibility of the sponsoring partners, and the sensibilities of the stakeholder communities;
6. Project processes must remain explicitly sensitive to the future development potential of the Indian partner, such that strategies with the potential to drain human or other resources will be scrupulously avoided.
